Out of the Ordinary

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

Dr. Seuss

You may have heard the phrase “be out of the ordinary,” which I think suits many of life’s situations quite well. My interpretation of being “out” of the ordinary is simply relying on our own ideas and inner selves in our endeavors.

Some prefer to stick to the norm. But what does that really mean? Should there be a standard for us to live up to? Judging others by a certain standard almost defeats the purpose of creativity—being creative requires persistence and novelty, and novelty is what keeps the world thriving.

In many cases, the way we interpret things and establish our opinions derives from our past experiences and the beliefs of the norm. We’re simply building on what is already known to create something new and original. Even better: something out of the ordinary!
